The potential for good health is worth planning for.
Families Using Cord Blood
Cord blood continues to be a valuable resource for ViaCord families. More than 625 families have used their cord blood stored with ViaCord in a stem cell transplant or regenerative medicine clinical trial for the child it was collected from or a sibling.
Here are some of their stories . . .

The Krebbs Family
Brady's Story
Brady’s parents chose to bank his cord blood at birth with the hope it might one day be useful in the fight against diabetes. They never expected their decision to take on such significance so soon.

Ashton's Journey
Finding New Hope
Ashton was diagnosed with cerebral palsy after a bout of RSV and pneumonia at six weeks old. His parents share their inspiring story of how Ashton used his own cord blood banked with ViaCord in research using a child's own cord blood to help treat cerebral palsy.

Patrick's Story
Cord Blood & Cerebral Palsy
Patrick’s family shares their journey from learning he had suffered an in-utero stroke to navigating a cerebral palsy diagnosis—and the hope they found when Patrick was able to participate in a clinical trial using the cord blood his parents had banked at birth.
About Cord Blood Use
Banking cord blood does not guarantee that treatment will work and only a doctor can determine when it can be used. The clinical use of cord blood depends on multiple factors, including the patient’s age, medical condition, and the availability of a suitably matched stem cell donor, when applicable. The treating physician is responsible for determining whether cord blood is an appropriate treatment option.
ViaCord Cord Blood Uses
Families have used their banked cord blood in a stem cell transplant or regenerative medicine clinical trials (research), for either a sibling or the child the cord blood was collected from.

PROVEN USES
Stem Cell Transplants
Cord blood has been a reliable, effective, and life-saving source of stem cells in transplants for over 30 years. Hematopoietic Stem Cells (HSCs) collected from cord blood can be used in stem cell transplants for nearly 80 conditions to regenerate a healthy blood and immune system. Although most conditions are inherited genetic diseases, likely requiring a sibling or donor cells, a child's own cord blood may be used in certain cases, such as neuroblastoma.
Clinical Trials & Research
Regenerative Medicine
Regenerative Medicine aims to harness the body's natural healing mechanisms by using living, healthy cells to replace or regenerate damaged cells, tissues, or organs to restore normal function. While regenerative medicine is an advancing and exciting field with great research interest, all cord blood uses are experimental. Many ViaCord families have had the opportunity to participate in regenerative medicine clinical trials where a child received an infusion of his/her own cord blood.
